Product Roadmap Economics: Prioritizing by ROI Instead of Gut Feel

Most roadmaps are prioritized by stakeholder loudness, not economic return.

By Richard Ewing·

The Loudness Problem

Most roadmaps reflect the preferences of whoever speaks loudest in the room. Economic prioritization uses: Revenue Impact × Probability of Success / Cost of Implementation.

Frameworks: WSJF (Weighted Shortest Job First) for flow-based teams, ICE (Impact, Confidence, Ease) for startups, RICE (Reach, Impact, Confidence, Effort) for product-led growth. All are better than "CEO said so."
